We are the sum of our experiences. And if you ask David Lok about his early influences, he will tell you about his Primary 4 class teacher. There were about 6 underperforming students, including David, in Mrs Mutu’s class. After school hours, she took it upon herself to provide free tuition for the weak students. Day after day, she patiently guided each one in maths, science and English. When her 15-year old son passed away from sudden illness, Mrs Mutu continued with classes as usual. Though she was mourning, her composure never wavered. Today, David can’t quite recall what he learnt that fateful year. One thing he will never forget: a teacher’s kindness. Emotions are powerful. Emotions shape reality. That’s why instead of just taking photographs, David tries to capture emotions.
